A card system is a combination of a fifty-two card stack and a process. This process can be mathematical or mnemonic. It governs on the one hand the setup of cards in the stack, and on the other hand a way to know the position or the identity (or both) of each of the card in the stack.

Simply said, if arithmetic operations (+, -, X, ÷) are needed to find a card name or its stack-number, then it is a card system.

B-A-N-G
When using a card system, the time it takes to pronounce the letters B, A, N, G, is about the time necessary to translate a named card into its stack-number.
You will find some card systems falsly advertized as memorized decks. Such is the case of so called algorithm-based memorized decks.
Among the oldest card systems, and by far the most well known, is the one popularized by Si Stebbins back in 1908.

I have been selling used magic books since 1994. During these 28 years, I was in contact with great customers, some of which with whom I had warm communications. It has always been a pleasure to supply books to those looking for them.

It’s now time for me to turn the page.
